All students are timetabled to do 2 hours of PE per week, during which time they partake in sports of all kinds. Lessons for both boys and girls include a wide range of sporting activities, from football, rugby, cricket and basketball to dance, gymnastics and orienteering.
Sporting facilities at the school are first class. We have a full-sized 3G Astro Pitch (used for training purposes by the full England Rugby 1st team squad), as well as another smaller sized 3G five- a-side pitch. We also have 5 MPA covered tennis courts, a sports hall, a fitness suite, a dance studio/gymnasium, an artificial cricket wicket and tartan run ups for our new state of the art long jump pits.
We run a Gifted & Talented sports programme for our elite athletes, so that they are supported throughout their time at school. This involves the pupils participating in specialist courses, excursions, seminars with various sports professionals and athletes, as well as pupils receiving their own personal mentor who will support where necessary and ensure that the balance between training and school work is maintained.
Our students compete in International and National competitions. Our recent achievements have included our year 11 boys holding the title of district football champions for the past 5 years, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the National Cup. Consistently our athletics teams have reached the regional rounds of the English Schools Athletics Track and Field Cup, with a number of individual athletes continuing to compete in the English Schools finals in a variety of disciplines. We have also won a national girls’ rugby competition at Twickenham and have had several pupils go on to represent their country in football, rugby, athletics, judo, tae kwon do, karate, ice hockey, skiing, gymnastics, diving and trampolining.
We also run over 100 extra-curricular clubs that include all of your major sports as well as table tennis, mountain biking, volleyball, softball and handball.

In addition to the 2 hours of core PE, there is also the option or taking a qualification in sport as a KS4 pathway. Students in Years 10 and 11 have the opportunity to enrol on a PE course; either Edexcel GCSE PE, OCR Cambridge National Sport Science or OCR Cambridge National Sport Studies.
The GCSE is 30% practical based (team and individual performances) and 60% theory (students will sit a paper on Fitness and Body systems and a second paper on Health and Performance) and 10% coursework (students will complete a personal exercise programme and analyse the effectiveness of it).
The OCR Cambridge National Sport Science course has extremely similar content to the GCSE PE, but is a little bit more coursework based which is continually assessed. Students will complete three internal units of study (Applying principles of training, The body's response to physical training, Sport Psychology/Sports nutrition) and sit an external 1 hour exam on Injuries in Sport.
The OCR Cambridge National Sport studies suits our more practical learners and is coursework based which is continually assessed. Students will complete three internal units of study (Developing sports skills, Sports leadership, Sport and the media) and sit an external 1 hour exam on Contemporary issues in sport.
Another qualification offered is the nationally recognised Sports Leadership Qualification offered to all year 10’s within their core PE lessons. Through this course they learn many essential skills to be effective at leading children in a variety of different sports. Along with looking good on a CV, this course also enables students to earn additional UCAS points, through continuing the next level of the course at college. Prior to completing this qualification, Y9 pupils engage in a sport education programme within their core PE lessons to develop basic leadership skills.
