Film Studies GCSE


Key Stage 4 - Years 10 & 11

Film Studies is an GCSE option subject chosen in year 9.

Production Work
30% of the GCSE is based on the student's own film production where students are taught different skills using cinematography effectively and how to edit using Sony Vegas.

External Examination
70% of the grade will come from the 2 exam papers.
Paper 1:  focuses on American historical film and Specialist Writing about American Independent Film.
Paper 2: explores Global films - English and non English language films where cinematography, character and plot theory as well as the powerful influences of the social context are analysed in detail.

The Students have studied from selected films specified by the exam board: Skyfall, Tsotsi, Slumdog Millionaire, Rebel without a Cause, Ferris Bueller's day off, Whiplash.

Extra curricular 

Film club for KS3 where students can watch films, learn about filming techniques and put them into practice

Film prefects and film crew use hands on experience filming school events like Sports Days, induction days and concerts.
