Holiday Astronomy Courses

Know a young stargazer in Year 7 or 8? Our holiday courses are just the thing to keep them occupied outside of term time! Each 3-day course will see students embark on their own interstellar journey, working on projects unique to each individual. Past topics include black holes, deep space and the establishment of a colony on Mars. Complete with hands on activities and planetarium sessions, this course is a one-of-a-kind experience for the astronomers and scientists of tomorrow. Watch this space for more information the next time we launch!

Astronomy Club

We run a weekly Astronomy club for Year 7 students, that takes place on Tuesdays at 3-4pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about space and pursue their particular interests in a fun and relaxed environment. Completely free of cost, the Astronomy club allows students to experience the universe with the aid of the only state-school owned planetarium in the UK.

What can you expect?

With the use of Digitarium technology, our planetarium can show you the night sky anywhere from the Australian outback to your own back garden, as well as fly to any object in our solar system and even beyond the galaxy. Our presenter is in full control, using images and data from real scientific research, brought to you in a live presentation that changes every month. We run regular shows every month, roughly 45 minutes in length, with both a live demonstration and a fulldome film. You'll get a monthly update on the night sky, a feature on a object or topic of interest and a showing of the selected film. While age guidance can vary, our shows are fun for all the family.

The planetarium is NOT suitable for those with sensitivity to flashing lights or dizzying motion. Please let us know in advance if you have any accessibility needs.

Private Hire

In addition to our public shows, the planetarium is available for hire to groups and businesses. Our spacious Discovery Space library and activity area is a perfect venue for your next meeting, social or conference, enhanced with a presentation inside the dome. We also cater for children's groups and school visits. With your input, we will tailor the whole experience to your needs and interests, so don't be afraid to get in touch!

Directions

The planetarium is situated within the Discovery Space. To find it, use the Sports Centre gate and follow the drive down to the end. The Discovery Space will be to the right of the car park.
