At The Winston Churchill School we understand how big the transition from primary to secondary school can be. We do all we can to make sure primary school pupils and their parents have all the information they need to make the right decision and feel safe and happy in their new school.

In addition to applications from inside our admissions area
it is possible for Year 6 pupils who live outside of the admissions area to apply for a specialist Academic or Music place.  Applications can be made for both Music and Academic specialist places.

To apply for a Specialist Academic or Music place;
  • it is important that the normal process of applying through the Surrey County Council for a school place must be followed. Details can be found on Surrey County Council website.  Or hard copies of the schools admissions booklet and application forms can be obtained from Surrey County Council by calling: Tel: 0300 200 1004.

  • additionally you will be required to fill in a supplementary application form and return this directly to Mrs Arthur at The Winston Churchill School.

Tours of the school are available
where you will be shown Winston on a typical day and get the opportunity to ask any questions you may have
Tours of the school will be available every day  between late September and  October up to half term and then there will be one tour a month. Dates can be found on the book onto a tour page where you can also find the prospectus
If you have been unsuccessful in gaining a place at The Winston Churchill School and you wish to lodge an appeal, please visit the Surrey Schools Appeals website for further information. The Surrey Appeals Service administers the appeal process for The Winston Churchill School.

Alternatively, please call the Surrey Schools Appeals Service on  020 8541 8092 or email surrey.schoolappeals@surreycc.gov.uk to request appeal papers.

If you are appealing please also request to be added to our waiting list as occasionally places become available. Contact Mrs W Arthur on 01483 485289 or by email w.arthur@wcsc.org.uk to be added to the waiting list.
If your child does not secure a place at The Winston Churchill School and you wish to be added to our waiting list, then you MUST email Mrs Arthur on w.arthur@wcsc.org.uk who will then place your child on the list.
The Winston Churchill School is a Foundation School, which means we hold our own waiting list. Please be aware that you will not be added to our list by Surrey County Council.

For Parents of Children in Year 6: (See bottom of page for In-year transfers)
  • At the beginning of the Autumn Term: The "Going to secondary school" leaflets will be delivered to primary schools.
  • The schools will distribute the leaflets to Year 6 pupils.
  • The closing date for Secondary applications is 31st October each year. However, we strongly recommend that you submit your secondary application by the Friday before the half term holiday.
All applications must be completed through the Surrey County Council website Including those applying for a Specialist Academic or Music place (see above).

Parents are informed in March either by letter or email which school they have been allocated. 14 days are given from this date to either accept or decline a place. More information can be found on the Surrey County Council website.
Once you have been offered a place at The Winston Churchill School we have regular meetings with parents. This includes an information evening and individual intake meetings where all the necessary paperwork is completed. Pupils also attend an induction day where they experience exciting taster lessons and have lunch with us.
The Year 6 summer school is a 2 week transition programme aimed at selected Year 6’s who are coming up to Winston in September.  During the 2 week period the students are given the opportunity to gain confidence and build self-esteem for when they start at Winston in September, through on site curriculum based lessons and off site trips to a variety of organisations.
Year 5 students had the chance to participate in a day of exciting activities during the summer holiday free of charge.

If you wish to apply for admission for any year group other than Year 6/7 transfer you will need to complete an application form  and return it to The Admissions & Transport Team at Surrey County Council as instructed.

It should be pointed out that if your child has a full statement of special educational needs and you wish to appeal, you need to apply through the Local Authority for admission as such cases cannot be heard at the school.
