Astrofest 2010 “The Universe Under One Roof”

Students and staff headed to Kensington Town Hall on Saturday to attend Astrofest 2010 – the UK’s biggest Astronomy show! The highlight of the event was getting to meet Patrick Moore and Brian May – yes, the guitarist from Queen – as they were doing a book signing. We had a chat, got their autographs and got our photos taken with them. Mr. Emerson has even managed to get his photo of meeting Brian on the Astrofest Blog http://www.astronomynow.com/astrofest2010blog/! Brian and Patrick were promoting their book “Bang!” which is about the origins of the universe.

Also at the festival were a large number of stalls exhibiting loads of astronomical gear, including some of the biggest (and most expensive!) amateur telescopes available. There were also a number of lectures that students and staff attended, including a very amusing ‘An Audience With Patrick and Brian’. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to returning next year!

If you are interested in joining Astronomy Club, please see Mr. Anslow for details or just turn up on Fridays after school in S1.

Mrs. Dudley

Astronomy Club

Astronomy Club is one of the well established clubs at school.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Moon, planets, stars, black holes or the origin of the Universe is welcome to attend our meetings, held every Friday after school.

We visit ASTROFEST in London every February and usually manage a couple of nights under the stars with telescopes. We have other outings planned for this year.

Bring a friend along and enjoy learning about what can be seen in the night sky with your own eyes, binoculars and telescopes.

For more information and details about our programme of meetings,

Contact: Mr. Anslow, Mrs. Dudley or Dr. Lau (S7, S2, S6)
