Year 7 Fund Raise for the End Polio Campaign
|
|
In March the School Council Representatives for Year 7 presented The Rotary Club with a £100 donation in assembly. This was to help with the club’s current project which is to eradicate worldwide Polio. The students decided to donate some of the money they have been raising after the club presented an assembly to them about the cause.
Well done Year 7.

| Mrs Field, Mr Hine and Mr Reed (Year Leader Year 8) | Year 8 and 10 students have chosed Woking Hospice to be their charity for this school year and are planning fund raising events including a Muffty Day to try and raise as much money as possible for this valuable facility.
Mr Hine from Woking Hospice visited the school and talked to the students during assembly to explain what the Hospice does and also highlighted the fact that they are dependant on donations to keep the Hospice running and Mrs Field (Yr 8 Tutor) presented Mr Hine with a cheque on behalf of the school.
As you are probably aware the Hospice currently has a major funding problem and is desperate for donations. If you would like to make a contribution to the Hospice please click on the link below to access their website. |

Woking Rotary Club Help the School Purchase a Defibrillator
|
|
The school has very strong ties with The Rotary Club for Woking District; Winston Churchill School is the host for their annual Summer Festival and Classic Car Show every August. We are really pleased that The Rotary Club agreed to help us pay for a defibrillator
A defibrillator is one of those paradoxical things – it is a very important and expensive piece of equipment, but it is one that you pray that you will never need to use!
A large secondary school such as the Winston Churchill School, sees many ‘visits’ throughout the year – with over 1500 students, this means around 300,000 people through the door over the course of the academic year, and this is without counting teachers and actual visitors to the school. The Sports Centre, which is open to the whole community on our site, adds well in advance of another 100,000 visitors each year onto the school site.
By having a defibrillator on site, with properly trained staff, it will mean that it may be possible to save the life of any person who is unfortunate enough to have a tragic accident or illness while visiting our school.
This new development will ensure our continued drive to creating a safe environment for all young people and adults who use our facilities.
We are very grateful for the Rotary Club of Woking District for their support in this initiative.

Open Evening for Prospective Parents | |
| |
| On the evening of Thursday 9th October the school held an open evening for prospective parents. This was a great opportunity to find out more about the school, meet the teachers, look at work by current students and for some 'hands on' fun taking part in competitions and experiments.
Talks were given by Mr David Smith, Head Teacher, during the evening and the Admissions team were on hand to answer questions on all aspects of the primary/secondary transition.
Students from the school provided guided tours, allowing parents to ask them their views on life at Winston Churchill.
All departments of the school were involved and a wide range of student work was on display including GCSE art work, delicious healthy snacks in the Food Technology Department, camping for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, drama performances, live music and lots of bangs and flashes in the Science Department!
Feedback from parents has been excellent and below are some of the comments received:
"Firstly I would like to thank you for the superb open evening last night. Your staff and students were just great – what a vibrant environment, can I come back to school?"
"I write specifically in praise our guide last night; her name Katie Stemp (I think that’s right) from year 9. She was patient, friendly, had a great smile and told us lots about the where, what, when who and who........ a superb advert for your school and all those associated with it! "
And on the tour guides "They were very helpful, informative, polite, funny and myself and my daughters wre so pleased we had them to show us around. The rapor they had with their teachers was fantastic, and is one of the factors I really liked about your school" |
