French Study Tour 2010

On the 5th July 2010, 40 excited, yet tired, Winston Churchill students arrived at the front of the school at (a too early!) 7:30am to set off on a fun-filled trip to Paris with 4 of the best teachers we have!

The journey was quite long and tiring and after 9 hours of travelling we finally arrived at our lovely hotel in the centre of Paris! After a delicious evening dinner we took a night time tour of Paris by coach and saw the most beautiful places in the city!

The next day was filled with sightseeing and shopping at some amazing places (The Eiffel tower, the Montmartre, le Sacre Coeur) and after a long day we all went to a lovely French restaurant for dinner and then back to the hotel where we all fell straight asleep!

Wednesday entailed a FANTASTIC day at Parc Asterix (a theme park) where we spent the day on some amazing and thrilling rides! This was then followed by a quick trip to Le Louvre, where we saw the famous Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, they were so beautiful! We then spent the evening watching and performing in our talent show, some of the acts were such a laugh!

The next day we had to sadly leave Paris and head back to England. Overall the trip was fantastic and I would like to thank Miss Chaubard, Mrs Vadi, Mr Gibbons and Mr Vogel for making the trip so excellent!

French Study Tour a huge success! (2008)

Congratulations to all the students who took part in the Year 10 French Study tour from the 7-11 July this year!

Mrs Higgins the subject leader together with Mrs Arthur, Mrs Alexander and Mr Phillips were delighted by the maturity and enthusiasm of the students involved.

After a journey involving turbulent seas and torrential downpours, the group were able to relax and enjoy a tour of Paris by night, taking in all the major sights and a wonderful view of the Eiffel tower which had been covered in sparkling lights and was illuminated at 10pm.

On the Tuesday we began with a visit to the Pigalle, passing the famous Moulin Rouge theatre and on to the Sacré Coeur Basilica. Our French assistant Florence was able to join us for the day and accompanied us to the famous Place du Tertre where one of our students had her portrait done. We then moved on to the Eiffel Tower and that was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip. We then took an open-topped boat up the Seine before heading back to the hotel.

The Wednesday was dominated by a trip to the famous Palace of Versailles where we enjoyed glorious sunshine before returning to Paris for a visit starting at the Arc de Triomphe and a walk down the Champs Élysées and the Jardins des Tuileries and culminating in a visit to the Louvre and the Mona Lisa.

Our final day was spent at Parc Astérix which we can recommend as a wonderful and much more French alternative to Disneyland.

Many prizes were awarded during the trip especially for consistently good spoken French.

Miss Chaubard is currently advertising next year’s study tour and places are filling up quickly, so current Year 9 students interested in participating, please see Miss Chaubard for details and a letter.
