Top Link Conference 2010 |
| On Wednesday 10th February, Winston Churchill held the Surrey Top Link Conference, which saw 100 young leaders from 25 different secondary schools in the county come to improve their leadership skills.
Organised by Mr Callender and run by past and present Winston students, the conference provided our students with the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills by running sessions in which the young leaders learnt about the key skills needed to be a successful leader. The day began with a theory exercise in which the young leaders, aged 14-17, had to draw a picture of a leader, incorporating the qualities expected of a good leader.
Other theory activities focused on different types of people and leaders, and what sports are best suited to them. There was also the chance for the young leaders to participate in practical activities, including a tug of war tournament and a relay race. The day was successful in boosting many people’s confidence, not only the young leaders from around the county, but Winston students also.
An inspiring talk from professional BMX-er Mike Mullen, the athlete role model for the day, helped achieve the aim of the day by encouraging young leaders to benefit their community by organising and running a range of different sporting activities in their area.
Overall, students from Winston Churchill were able to demonstrate the capability of young people and their success in leadership. The day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all.
